Hace unas semanas terminaban los 16th FINA WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS (Kazán). El
encuentro más importante del año, donde se concentran las mejores nadadoras de
Natación Sincronizada.

A few weeks ago, the 16th FINA WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS
(in Kazan) took place. This was the most important event of the year, where the
best synchronized swimmers gathered together to compete.
Si en
el año 2007, en el 12th FINA WORLD
CHAMPIONSHIPS (Melbourne),
se cambiaba por completo el planteamiento de las competiciones de nuestro
deporte, separando en diferentes disciplinas y por lo tanto eventos con sus
propias finales y medallas, las Rutinas Técnicas de las Rutinas Libres. Este
año ha sido un año que marcará de nuevo un antes y un después en el mundo de la
Natación Sincronizada.

In 2007, at the 12th FINA WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS (in
Melbourne), the approach of our sport’s competitions was changed dramatically by
separating out different disciplines, and therefore events with their own
finals and medals, Technical Routines of Free Routines. This year has been one
that will again mark a before and after in the Synchronized Swimming world.
Por
primera vez en la historia de la sincro, los chicos han podido saltar a la piscina y competir en una competición oficial. Hasta este momento no era
posible, y sólo podíamos disfrutar de ellos en campeonatos Open y en algunos
países, como EE.UU., en sus campeonatos nacionales.

For the
first time in synchro’s history, the boys were able to dive into the pool and compete in an official competition. Until this precise moment, it was simply not
possible and we could only enjoy them in open championships in some countries such
as the USA in their national championships.
Pero esta vez, la puerta se abrió
y nuestro deporte creció, avanzó y demostró estar a la altura de la época en la
que vivimos, donde se lucha por la igualdad de derechos y la no discriminación
entre hombres y mujeres. Porque amar la natación sincronizada, no
entiende de sexos.

But this time the door opened, and our sport continued
to grow, move on, and proved to be symbolic of the times in which we live where
we fight for equal rights and non-discrimination between men and women. Because
to love synchronized swimming, also means knowing no gender differences.
Grandes precursores de esta lucha, han estado en esta cita y
nos han deleitado con grandes coreografías, que para mi gusto nada tienen que
envidiar de las de las chicas.
La fuerza y explosividad de los chicos nos ofrece un mundo de
posibilidades y variantes para este deporte que aún le queda mucho que
aprender.

Great pioneers of this fight at this event came
to delight us with wonderful choreographies, which in my opinion left nothing to
envy those of the girls.
The strength and explosiveness of the boys now offers
a world of possibilities and variants for this sport that still has much to
learn from itself.
Yo he disfrutado al máximo y ellos me han dejado sin habla.
Una EE.UU., sin abandonar su estilo tan particular y
americano y con un artístico que engancha desde el comienzo de la música. Mi

Y qué decir de grandes nadadoras que han marcado un hito en

fuese mi compañera de dúo por más de 10 años, Gemma Mengual y su nueva pareja PauRibes.

And what is there to say about the great
swimmers who have marked a milestone in the history of synchro and wanted to
join this big premiere.

Siempre oíamos
hablar de chicos que hacían sincro, pero en contadas ocasiones teníamos la
oportunidad de verlos en el agua. Yo tuve la suerte de compartir piscina con
algunos, en mis comienzos con la Selección Española. Por ejemplo en el Campeonato
Nacional de Francia en el año 1996, vimos nadar al joven Benoit Yves Beaufils.

We always heard about boys who performed
synchro, but we rarely had the chance to see them in the water. I was fortunate
enough to be able to share the pool with some of them in my early days with the
Spanish National Team. For example, in the National Championship of France in
1996, we saw the young Benoit Yves Beaufils swim.
Y en varias competiciones
abiertas de Europa, la fantástica pareja: Bill May & Kristina Lum, nos
dieron la posibilidad de disfrutar de sus increíbles coreografías.

And in several open European competitions, the
fantastic duo: Bill May and Kristina Lum gave us the opportunity to enjoy their
amazing choreography.
Se dice que la Sincronizada se
ha mantenido como deporte exclusivamente femenino en las competiciones
oficiales y concretamente en los JJ.OO., porque si se convirtiese en deporte
mixto dejaría de ser deporte olímpico, ya que este evento tiene cupo para
deportes femeninos, como la Gimnasia Rítmica, y hasta hoy la Natación
Sincronizada. Y dentro de los deportes mixtos no hay plazas para deportes
nuevos…
Sea verdad o no, y sin saber
muy bien lo que pasará de ahora en adelante, lo que es cierto es que una nueva
Natación Sincronizada ya está aquí, la versión 2.0!!!

It is often said that Synchronized Swimming has
remained exclusively a female sport in official competitions and specifically
in the Olympics, because if it becomes a mixed sport it would not be an Olympic
one anymore due to the fact that this event has an allotment for women's
sports, such as Rhythmic gymnastics and synchronized swimming, until today. Within
mixed sports, there is not much allotment for new sports...
Whether true or not, and without really knowing
what will happen from now on, what is certain is that a new Synchronized
Swimming is here, the 2.0 version!!!
